Purpose of the Plan
The Institutional Development Plan (IDP) of MIT University Sikkim is a structured roadmap that defines the university's academic, research, infrastructural and administrative priorities. It is prepared in accordance with UGC guidelines and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and is reviewed periodically by the Board of Management and the Planning & Monitoring Board.
Strategic Pillars
1. Academic Development
- • Expand programme offerings across all 11 faculties
- • Full implementation of CBCS with multiple entry–exit options
- • Integration with the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) and DigiLocker
- • Regular curriculum revision through the Boards of Studies
- • Introduction of skill-based and vocational credit courses
2. Research and Innovation
- • Establish faculty-wise research cells and a central Research Advisory Committee
- • Target of 100+ peer-reviewed publications annually by 2030
- • Set up a startup incubation and entrepreneurship development centre
- • Promote research on Himalayan ecology, organic agriculture and regional culture
3. Infrastructure Development
- • Phase-wise expansion of academic blocks, laboratories and hostels
- • Full Wi-Fi-enabled smart campus with digital classrooms
- • Central Library with National Digital Library and e-journal access
- • Green campus initiatives — solar power, rainwater harvesting, waste segregation
4. Faculty Development
- • Recruitment as per applicable UGC Regulations
- • Mandatory Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) and orientation courses
- • Support for doctoral and post-doctoral advancement of teaching staff
5. Student Support and Progression
- • Dedicated Training & Placement Cell with industry tie-ups
- • Career counselling, mentoring and remedial coaching
- • Scholarship framework for economically weaker and meritorious students
- • Alumni network development
6. Quality Assurance and Governance
- • Functional IQAC with annual quality audits
- • Preparation for NAAC accreditation and NIRF participation
- • Transparent, statute-based governance through the Board of Management, Academic Council and Boards of Studies
